Product Basics

What is Prime Quant Research?

Prime Quant Research is a strategy research platform for testing ready-designed trading strategies using Backtest, Parameter Sweep, and Walkforward research. It does not execute trades or provide live trading services.

Do I need coding experience?

No. You can browse strategies, configure their settings, run research, and review results without writing code.

What strategies can I test in PQR?

PQR provides ready-designed strategies in the Strategy Library that you can configure and research without writing code. Support for user-defined strategies may be added in the future.

Can I use PQR on mobile devices?

Yes. PQR works on desktop, tablet, and mobile. Desktop is recommended for configuring and reviewing more detailed research, while mobile is better suited for browsing and lighter review.

Research & Testing

What types of tests can I run?

PQR supports three research types: Backtest, Parameter Sweep, and Walkforward Testing.

How far back can a backtest go?

Basic research can cover up to 60 Trading Days for intraday or daily data, or up to 60 eligible observations for weekly or monthly data. Pro supports broader research ranges subject to available data and platform limits.

What is a Parameter Sweep?

A Parameter Sweep tests multiple combinations of strategy settings on the same dataset so you can compare how different configurations behave.

What is Walkforward Testing?

Walkforward Testing repeatedly selects strategy settings using one period of data and then tests them on a later period. Anchored and Rolling determine how the windows move across segments, while Best and Stable are selection methods used to choose configurations for out-of-sample evaluation. See the Help Center for detailed guidance.

How are slippage and commission handled?

Slippage and commission are optional trading-cost settings. Slippage is applied to each trade fill, while Commission % is charged separately on each entry and exit. Set either value to 0 if you do not want to include that cost.

Market Data

Where do I get historical data?

You can use historical market data from trading platforms, broker exports, public sources, or paid data providers.

Can I upload my own data?

Yes. You can upload your own historical market data during strategy configuration.

What file formats are supported?

PQR supports CSV and XLSX files.

What columns are required?

Your dataset must include Open, High, Low, and Close prices, along with a usable Datetime column or separate Date and Time columns. Volume is optional unless a strategy requires it. See the Market Data Guide for detailed formatting requirements.

What timeframe data can I use?

PQR supports multiple timeframes. The timeframes you can use may depend on the selected strategy and its rules. The supported range is shown when you configure the strategy.

What should I check if my dataset cannot be used?

Check that the dataset contains the required price and time columns, includes readable time information, contains valid data, and uses a supported candle structure. The Market Data Guide explains the required format and validation rules.

Results & Reports

Where can I find my results?

Completed research can be opened from the Dashboard, Recent Results, or Result History.

What does Completed (No Trades) mean?

The research finished successfully, but the strategy did not trigger any trades on the selected data and settings. It is not a system error.

Are my results saved?

Yes. Completed research results are saved to your account so you can reopen and review them later.

What can I download from a result?

Basic users can download CSV Data and a PDF Report. The Detailed Excel Workbook is available with Pro.

How should I use historical research results?

Historical research helps you understand how a strategy behaved across the selected data and settings. Use the results to compare configurations, study consistency, and make better-informed research decisions before considering how the strategy may behave in future conditions.

Credits & Access

How many credits does each test use?

Research credits are used when you run research. A Backtest uses 10 credits, a Parameter Sweep uses 40 credits, and a Walkforward test uses 50 credits. For Pro users, larger datasets use more credits based on the number of rows in the dataset.

How many credits do Basic users get?

Basic includes 100 research credits each day, resetting at 00:00 UTC. Unused credits do not carry over to the next day.

What do I get with Pro?

Pro includes 1,500 research credits for each current Pro access period, supports datasets up to 500,000 rows, and includes CSV Data, a PDF Report, and the Detailed Excel Workbook.

How does dataset size affect Pro credit usage?

For Pro users, the credit cost increases with dataset size. Up to 100,000 rows uses the normal credit cost, and each additional block of up to 100,000 rows increases the multiplier by one, up to the 500,000-row limit.

Are my credits protected if a research run cannot be completed?

Yes. If a run cannot be completed because of a PQR execution issue after credits have been used, those credits are restored automatically. A run that completes successfully with no trades is treated as completed research and uses the normal credits.

How do I request Pro Access?

Verified Basic users can request Pro Access from Pricing or Account. Requests are reviewed before Pro access is activated.
